Records, Integrity & Data Portability

How FairSplit balances tamper-resistant audit trails for family court compliance with user data privacy rights and full data portability.

Editable vs. Immutable Fields

To maintain evidentiary integrity, FairSplit separates draft entries from confirmed financial transactions:

  • Editable Fields (Before Approval): Title, category notes, split ratio, and draft receipt image can be updated before a co-parent responds.
  • Immutable Fields (After Approval / Payment): Once an expense is approved, paid, or formally disputed, core transaction fields (amount, split ratio, approval timestamp, payment link ID) are locked against modification.
  • Correction History: If an entry requires adjustment after approval, a compensating adjustment entry must be logged, preserving the original transaction audit log.

Server-Side Timestamps

Timestamps are recorded by secure server clocks when requests are created, delivered, viewed, approved, or disputed. Devices cannot alter historical event timestamps.

Data Export Formats & Professional Access

Your financial records belong to you. Users can export their complete expense history at any time in two formats:

  • Court-Friendly PDF: Formatted summary report with chronological ledger tables, receipt thumbnails, and timestamp verifications.
  • Raw CSV Export: Complete tabular export for spreadsheet analysis, accounting, or mediator import.

Data Retention vs. Account Deletion Rights

Users have the right to request account deletion under applicable privacy regulations. Upon account closure:

  • Personal account credentials and contact details are purged from active user databases.
  • Shared ledger entries involving a co-parent remain accessible to the co-parent in anonymized form to preserve their statutory right to maintain joint financial records.
  • Backups are purged according to standard rolling retention cycles (up to 30 days).
